It started, like many things do, with an anime.
I'd just finished watching Solo Leveling, and I couldn't stop thinking about it. Not just the incredible action sequences or Jin-Woo's transformation from the weakest hunter to the strongest — but the System. The daily quests. The XP. The leveling up.
There was something intoxicating about watching someone complete tasks, earn rewards, and literally see themselves getting stronger. And then a thought hit me:
"What if I could turn my real life into that kind of video game?"
🔍 The Search for the Perfect App
I immediately went to the App Store. Surely someone had built this, right? An app that gamifies your habits with XP, levels, and that satisfying sense of progression?
I downloaded everything. Habitica. Finch. Various "daily quest" apps. Fitness RPGs. Productivity gamification tools. I tried them all.
And I was disappointed.
😤 The Two Problems I Found
After trying dozens of apps, I noticed they all fell into one of two categories — and both had fundamental issues.
Many apps told me what habits I should build:
- "Do 100 push-ups"
- "Drink 8 glasses of water"
- "Wake up at 5 AM"
- "Meditate for 20 minutes"
But here's the thing — 100 push-ups isn't suitable for everyone. A beginner might struggle with 10. Someone with an injury might need to do something else entirely. I wanted to track my habits, not follow someone else's program.
Other apps went too far with gamification:
- Virtual pets that need feeding
- Crafting systems and inventory management
- Social features and guilds I didn't ask for
- Mini-games that distracted from the actual habits
I wanted to be productive, not spend 20 minutes caring for a cartoon bird or managing virtual weapon upgrades. The game elements should enhance habit tracking, not become the main activity.
Neither approach worked for me. One was too rigid, the other too distracting. I wanted something in between — something that let me define my own journey while making the process genuinely enjoyable.
🛠️ So I Built It Myself
I'm a developer. When I can't find the tool I want, I build it.
I started with a simple question: What would the perfect habit tracker look like for me?
After months of development, iteration, and using the app myself every single day, here's what HabitForge became:
- You define your habits — No prescribed routines. Track whatever matters to you.
- Gamification enhances, not distracts — XP and levels that feel rewarding, without the fluff.
- Consistency is king — Streak bonuses that encourage daily action.
- Joy in the details — Polished animations, satisfying sounds, beautiful design.
✨ What Makes HabitForge Different
Here's what I focused on while building the app:
📊 Detailed Habit Tracking
Track habits with rich detail — completion history, streaks, statistics, and progress over time. See your journey clearly.
🎮 Rewarding to Use
Every habit completion gives you XP. Watch your level grow. Feel the dopamine hit of progress. No virtual pets required.
🔥 Streak Motivation
Bonus XP for maintaining streaks. The longer your streak, the more it hurts to break it. That's the point.
💎 Polish & Craft
Smooth animations. Satisfying sound design. A dark theme that's easy on the eyes. Every detail matters.
🎯 Flexible for Anyone
Whether you're getting fit, reading more, quitting smoking, or learning a skill — HabitForge adapts to your goals.
🔒 Privacy First
Your habits stay on your device. No accounts, no cloud sync to some server, no data harvesting. Just you and your goals.
🎯 Built for Real People
The truth is, habit apps fail when they try to be one-size-fits-all. A college student trying to study more has different needs than a new parent trying to exercise, or a professional trying to meditate, or someone trying to quit a bad habit.
HabitForge doesn't judge what habits you should build. It doesn't force you into a specific routine. It simply gives you:
- A beautiful way to track whatever matters to you
- The motivation to complete your habits daily
- The satisfaction of watching yourself level up
- The accountability of not wanting to break your streak
Whether you want to do 100 push-ups like Jin-Woo or just drink one more glass of water than yesterday — HabitForge is built for your journey.
🚀 The Journey Continues
I use HabitForge every day. It's helped me build habits I struggled with for years. And I'm constantly improving it — adding features, polishing details, making it better based on real usage and feedback.
If you've ever watched Solo Leveling and thought "I want that for my life" — this is the app I wish existed when I went searching.
Now it does.
Arise, Hunter. Your daily quests await.
